Qlight Nanotech was established in 2009 as a spin-off from Yissum and Prof. Uri Banin, with the goal of commercializing quantum dots as light emitters for advanced display screens. In 2015, Merck invested in Qlight and subsequently acquired the company, integrating it into its R&D organization.
In recent years, Merck Electronics has been realigning its business strategy to respond to emerging trends and applications within the electronics industry. As part of Electronics R&D, the Qlight team is now actively engaged in development projects that deliver advanced materials to semiconductor manufacturers and provide material solutions for AR/VR hardware.
In this seminar, I will discuss the major megatrends driving the electronics market and Merck's strategic approach to addressing emerging needs and challenges. Key trends include the imperative to reduce the environmental impact of chip manufacturing while enhancing performance, as well as the increasing demand for devices that support artificial intelligence in all its forms. Additionally, the organization is leveraging AI to accelerate R&D cycles, enabling the development of superior materials for the market. These transformations present significant professional opportunities for the team of top-level scientists at Qlight, allowing them to contribute to the challenging yet rewarding endeavor of creating essential materials and solutions.
