THE HEBREW UNIVERSITY CENTER FOR NANOSCIENCE AND NANOTECHNOLOGY

Unit for Nanocharacterization - Information for Users

General Information on Unit for Nanocharacterization:
The Unit for Nanocharacterization (UNC) at the Hebrew University provides training courses for users who wish to learn how to use and operate the facilities of the Unit.
Training is aimed for graduate students and researchers who plan an extensive and routine use of UNC facilities for their own research projects (or group’s projects). The courses will include the following:
1. Technical and scientific background - scientific references and technical information will be provided by UNC staff. We expect the students and the researchers to be familiar with the scientific and the technical background of the instrument and/or the technique they plan to use.
2. A brief technical description of the instrument and the techniques.
3. Several sessions of practical training - in this stage the users will work together with our technical staff on samples to be provided by the users.
4. Practical and technical exam by UNC staff.
In addition, we expect the users to read and follow all the administrative rules of the Unit, the safety regulations and any additional instructions for each instrument.
At the end of the course and after demonstrating to our staff the ability to work independently with the instrument, the user will receive permission for independent use of the instrument. The permission is valid only for the specific instrument and the specific technique that was studied during the training.
Please notice the following:
  • If no work is performed on the instrument for more than two months, the permission will expire. A second practical exam will be required for revalidation of the permission.
  • Failure to follow the rules and the instructions will cause a suspension of the permission.
Currently we provide training courses for the following instruments and techniques:
1. High-Resolution SEM (Sirion)
2. Environmental SEM (Quanta)
3. SPM
4. XRD
5. TEM
For more information and registration please contact Dr. Inna Popov (lab manager).
